Thanks to the MESH module the Technician can extract from the points cloud high quality triangulated surfaces. Its peculiar feature is to perform “full 3D” triangulations instead of the common “2.5D” ones provided by other products.

Point cloud

The MESH module provides a first modelling technique based on a powerful three-dimensional mesh computing algorithm which allows to automatically obtain meshes with triangular grid starting from the points clouds acquired by Laser scanner instrument.

The produced meshes characterize as high quality and make this module precious to drastically reduce the modelling times in difficult cases to be modelled by CAD (terrain or complex architectures parts, archaeological excavations, etc.) and when a high quality level is required. The MESH module, besides the mesh computing algorithm, provides several tools to adapt meshes to the user’s needs. In fact the user has at his disposal manual editing commands as well as commands to smooth or smartly decimate meshes, i.e. algorithms specially studied to preserve corners. Moreover there are tools to automatically fill possible holes caused by shadow areas present in the scanning.

Mesh example

Once meshes are created and edited, even if they can be visualized and selected by AutoCAD® Osnap, are saved in an external database with the points clouds. This proves advantageous for CAD performance. The user can “materialize” the created meshes whenever, i.e. representing them in the CAD such as AutoCAD® “3D faces” entities, making sure that the final result is completely visible and usable also by who does not have CloudCUBE.
